I still remember whiling away my time reading or either trying to replicate the artwork of Amar Chitra Katha. Since its inception in 1967 Amar Chitra Katha has created more than 400 titles. Founder-editor Anant Pai started this comic series in a bid to teach Indian children about their cultural heritage. The ingeniously illustrated comic series told stories of famed Indian epics, mythology, history, folklore, and fables. The comic book format made it an easy read and the nifty illustrations were impactful.
ACK Media who has acquired Amar Chitra Katha from India Book House (IBH) launched the official website www.amarchitrakatha.com on founder-editor Anant Pai’s 79th birthday.
The website focuses on user generated content and the ecommerce model. The website even retains the comic look and feel thus not being an alien entity. It is easy to navigate and is segregated in broader sections. ACK Media had announced their plans of creating original content for Amar Chitra Katha and converting the same into print, DVDs, online services, games, TV and film. In fact ACK Media recently acquired animation company Quietmen Studios (now renamed Katha Studio’s).
