Finally, the rumors are laid to rest! It is true!

Google has ventured into the highly competitive and lucrative cell phone market.

Google plans to take the cell phone world by storm with their Nexus One model. This super high-resolution OLED touch screens hardware will run on the super fast Snapdragon processor and be an unlocked GSM based device. The entire user friendly display will be designed by Google themselves.

Instead of the Nexus One diving in the market by a wireless carrier, Google plans to opt for direct marketing. The device is expected to hit the market in early 2010.
According to reports, the device will exclusively run on Google’s own Android 2.1 platform.

Cell phone manufacturer HTC will be producing the hardware for Nexus One but, nonetheless, Google is said to have kept a tight watch on the production and are dictating terms to the minutest details.

For long Google was of the opinion that other cell phone manufacturers did not bring justice to their Android platform. They strongly believe Android has an enormous capability which cell phone manufacturers fail to tap on. So this time around, Goggle has planned to make amends by producing their own handset which will run exclusively on Android. The ‘internet biggie’ hopes that this will bring out the best out of Android.

This Nexus One will be comparatively thinner than the iPhone. So let’s be patient and wait for this magnificent model to showcase its uniqueness in the market.

Microsoft has finally woken up to the potential of free services on the internet with the announcement that it will release the online version of the office suite, Office 2010, for free.

Microsoft office 2010 (codenamed Office 14) includes extended file compatibility, user interface updates and a refined user experience. A private, invite-only version of the starter edition was released to select people in November 2009. It includes Microsoft Word 2010 and Microsoft Excel 2010, and displays advertisements to offset the free price.

The final product is scheduled for release in June 2010. Office 2010 will be available for Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 and will work with most of the popular web browsers except Opera.

Owing to multiple players in the market like Google, Apple, Adobe offering free/reasonable office software in the market, Microsoft seems to have found it imperative to tread a similar path.

Microsoft announced that any individual with a Live account can access the new Office 2010 which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote for free. With this first-off ‘free’ release, Microsoft aims to compete with other big players flourishing on this platform.

Opera Software, the Norway based browser maker has finally launched their much awaited web browser Opera 10.10. The unique feature of Opera 10.10 is that along with web browsing, the end user can avail of various other activity options, like stream music and media content. One can also share files, photos, documents from the opera browser itself instead of accessing third-party sites to perform similar actions. The latest version of Opera is bundled with server capabilities of the ‘Opera Unite’ platform to perform the activities mentioned above.

Jon von Tetzchner, CEO, said, “We promised Opera Unite would reinvent the Web, what we are really doing is reinventing how we as consumers interact with the Web. By giving our devices the ability to serve content, we become equal citizens on the Web. In an age where we have ceded control of our personal data to third-parties, Opera Unite gives us the freedom to choose how we will share the data that belongs to us.”

The purpose of Opera 10.10 with Opera Unite is to do away with third party applications for sharing content through the Internet. Users will now no longer need third party messengers, social networking websites, photo sharing applications, etc. as all these tasks are performed Opera 10.10 itself.

Opera 10.10 with Opera Unite offers various default applications bundled within it. A major advantage of Opera 10.10 is that users can share multi-GB of photos, stream music to mobile phones as well as gaming consoles besides the usual computers. The latest version (Opera 10.10) is available for download free of cost.
