BSNL is no doubt the country’s largest telecom operator, and they believe in taking giant steps. The telecom giant is set to launch prepaid international calling card. The cards are aimed at Indian tourists abroad and the emigrant community.
Users can call landlines, cellular phone and devices supporting voice over internet protocol (VoIP) with the BSNL prepaid international calling card. BSNL is inviting Expression of Interest (EOI) from companies or consortium of companies. These companies will market/sell the prepaid calling cards to be available in India and abroad.
BSNL routes its outbound and inbound international voice traffic through global carriers, while some of the traffic is being routed through other Indian ILDOs. Presently BSNL has four ILD gateways which will be increased as they would like routing all the overseas calling card traffic through the same.
The card will be launched in six regions, namely the US and Canada, the Middle east, South East Asia, Western Europe, UK and Australia.
