A few months back the Department of Telecom (DoT) had announced the disconnection of Chinese phones without IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) numbers as per security measures by April 15th.

But now Chinese mobile phone owners need not worry anymore as the government has decided to fix the problem by issuing fresh IMEI numbers. The new IMEIs will be obtained from GSMA and will be installed through a software developed by Cellular Operators Association of India by collaborating with the Mobile Standard Alliance of India.

It is great to see our government mend the issue with an alternate solution. It surely has saved over 25 million handsets from doomsday.

Now even you can check your IMEI number by dialling *#06# which would eventually flash the 15-digit number. In case you don’t have one it is time you ap[ply for the same.
