Google has become an online powerhouse with constant innovation. And this time Google spearheads the race with Gmail’s new voice and video chat features. Now users can have free voice and video conversations through their Gmail accounts. It’s as simple as sending an SMS.

The feature is an add-on to the interface and users will need to download a browser plug-in for installation. The chat feature works on the latest Mac OS and Windows versions of IE, Firefox, Safari and Google Chrome. Here is a video describing the new feature:

Since its launch in 2004 Gmail has grown into an enterprise-ready messaging tool.
The web mail has been modified for businesses as a personal productivity tool by introducing gadgets enabling access to Google Docs and Google Calendar. It looks like Google aims at making Gmail the hub for all its application, in sometime you really would not launch applications form elsewhere.
