In a new bid to be a favourite among other social networking sites, Google + has teamed up with video sharing giant YouTube in an effort to make live-streaming of videos possible on Google +.

Google, the popular search engine website which owns both Google + as well as YouTube, have taken up this step to revamp this website to suit net junkies. As of now, only recorded videos can be watched on the Hangout page of Google +, but with this new move, the group chat users will be able to access live streams on Hangouts.

From the time Hangouts was launched on Google +, it has proved to be a massive hit. Sharing live streams on Hangouts was a little known fact earlier. After YouTube Live Product Manager, Brandon Badger made an official  reveal at Vidcon in Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon that users are enabled to watch live streams together, both, Google + as well as Youtube can expect to generate a commendable amount of traffic.

Currently, if you are looking to add a live stream on Google +, the following steps will get you there:

  • Begin a new Hangout session on Google +Invite people to join you
  • On a new tab, open the Youtube Live page and select a Live stream that you want to share. After selecting the Live stream, copy the YouTube video ID
  • Click on the share link below the video.A link will appear to you such as http://youtu.be/XXXXXXXX (the cryptic code that appears after the slash is the video ID)
  • Go back to Hangouts, search for the ID in the video tab
  • Click on the play button to get started

This method is a cumbersome way of sharing a live stream, but YouTube aims at designing tools that accustom this feature with the interface on Google + and make Hangouts compatible withYouTube Live. Boards better for you now?

It does not end there…

Certain public hangouts will be shared on YouTube to have a huge chatroom experience. New options will allow Google+ users to check out a video on YouTube as well as find which of their friends are catching that video on Hangouts.

In the cold war to grab the position of most used social networking websites, the biggest winners, as seen in this case, are the netizens who can expect many innovative developments from their favourite social networking sites.
