They say the best way to explore India is through its villages. Well, telecom operators believe in the same. In fact the operators are heavily marketing their products and services to rural India. But the most startling fact is that mobile subscriber base in the country is perceived to exceed 771 million by 2013 reports a study by research firm Gartner. The report even states a growth in mobile market penetration from currently at 38.7% to 63.5% in 2013.
While total mobile services revenue in India at a compound annual growth rate of is projected at 12.5% exceeding 30 billion dollars. Prepaid connections are expected to grow to 96% surpassing 741 million as compared to 312 million in 2008.
ON the other hand postpaid subscriber base is expected to exceed 29 million by 2013 growing at 2.5%.
The main drivers are:
- Increased adoption of value-added-services (MVAS)
- Entry of new operators
At this rate India’s mobile market is sure to surpass China.
