Surprise, surprise!

A leader in measuring the digital media world, today released a report on twitter’s top nations. And if you think that the U.S. and the U.K. are the top countries to use Twitter, then you are wrong! According to the report, Asian country, Indonesia and Latin American giants, Brazil and Venezuela tweet the most. Seems unreal, but is true.

20.8% of the internet users in Indonesia are on Twitter, making it the largest twitter user, followed closely by Brazil (20.5 %) and Venezuela (19 %).

The study also found that in June, 2010, about 93 million net users visited Twitter, which is a 109 % rise from the last year; thanks to the site’s strong access around the globe. The reports also revealed that three out of four internet users are on Twitter.

Amongst the continents, Latin America is leading the race with about 15.4 million users while Asia Pacific comes second with about 25.1 million users. Shockingly, Europe and North America come in the last two positions.

Amongst individual nations, India, ranks 18th with about 8.0 per cent twitter users. This is a troublesome figure as smaller nations like Turkey, Chile and Colombia rank ahead.

The Asia Pacific region is the fastest growing region in Twitter usage with about 25.1 million visitors in June, 2010.

But these figures may be slightly inaccurate, since many people globally use Twitter from internet cafes or mobile phones which is not included.

However, to go by reports, Indonesia coming first in total Twitter usage is still a surprise considering the fact that many developed and media-friendly nations are lagging far behind.

Let’s see where does this fierce competition go and if Indonesia be able to keep up its top rank.
