Microsoft is back with a vengeance after Apple ads made a caricature out of the PC. The Apple “I’m a PC” campaign surely did a lot of harm to Microsoft’s image. And Microsoft Corp. is seeking retribution with its new ad campaign. The recent teaser campaigns launched by Microsoft featuring comedian Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates in offbeat conversations have received mixed reactions (not that positive though). In fact many consumers did not connect with the ads. Here is the video for those who have missed it.

The teaser campaign is said to end by next week and Microsoft Corp. will now begin the next phase of the $300 million campaign devised to restructure its tarnished image. The “Life without walls” concept is what Microsoft is still harping on. Though Seinfeld would not feature in the new ads Gates reappears but this time with celebrities such as author Deepak Chopra, singer Pharrell Williams and actress Eva Longoria. The new ads conceptualised by the ad agency Crispin Porter & Bogusky (known for some of the wackiest ads) are said to “have a conversation about the real PC.”

The ads will be featured in local newspapers and through the microsite lifewithoutwalls.com. The campaign that follows will focus on how Windows can be used for mobile devices, TVs and laptops along with PCs. Plus users can even upload video clips and photographs demonstrating how they are PCs on Windows.com.

Though the teaser ads were ambiguous and confounding I personally believe they had a lot to say about Microsoft. In fact we need lot of advertisements like these that hit the consumers under their belt and yet send the message across. Well I’m waiting for the new campaign to roll out.
