Motorola is strengthening their Android team, in a move to simplify their development process. Motorola has been struggling to come up with a worthy successor to its Razr range of phones and its shift towards Android is to come up with handsets that give serious competition and reclaim their market share.
Certain reports suggest that slowly Android will become a default OS for all Motorola phones. It will retain its own P2K platform only for low-end phones. Reducing the number of platforms will also lead to a leaner team and job cuts are also on the cards.
HTC has already debuted in the Android space with its G1 phone and other manufacturers like
Nokia too are developing Android based phones.
The question hence is – Should Motorola so heavily rely on a single open platform
like Android? Would its new strategy pay off?
