In January, this year, Bharati Airtel became the first private sector company to launch Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services in India and DigiMouth covered it. Now following suit is MTNL which launched Television over IP. The users get to enjoy this service using Intenet Protocol (IP). All they need is a broadband connection.
The highlight is that MTNL’s attractive services – broadband, telephone service and now IPTV – will be run on one connection. The service will offer 150 channels over IPTV but users will get access to only 30 channels at the rate of Rs. 250 per month. I
But I really do not understand why would people go in for IPTV while they get DTH services at the same rate. Plus MTNL has been harping on features like movie on demand and play/pause facility, to name a few. But don’t we get the same features in DTH services?
I am really not sure whether the service will do well after the subdued response to the launch of 3G in India in delhi which DigiMouth had reported.
Talking about 3G, MTNL has finally launched the 3G services in Mumbai. The test launch will offer a whole new ecosystem of communication and entertainment for Mumbaikars. But as I said earier the 3G launch in Delhi had a average response unlike industrial professionals expectations.
