MySpace India launched with all the fanfare. And luckily we were spared the irritating Bollywood tunes (and singers) which were replaced by deserving Indian rock bands that ushered the world famed social network. Though I ended up with a hangover and lots of new tunes the next morning, I was impressed with MySpace’s effort to transcend its proposition offline.
In yet another attempt the social network has launched the ‘MySpace Secret Shows’. “We bring free concerts all over India” reads the tagline of the next event to be hoeld on 29th May at the Bandra Amphitheatre in Mumbai.
Rock band Primal Scream was the first band to kick-off the ‘secret shows’ in 2006, in UK. And apparently everyone from Gnarls Barkley to Slayer and even U2 have been a part of the mega event. Well it looks like MySpace will be offering this platform to our deprived (in terms of gigs) and ever-struggling (they never get paid) Indian rock musicians.
I am happy for 2 reasons:
- No more Bollywood and Hindi-Pop bullshit
- My brethren (as I have my own band) gets yet another platform.
MySpace has been seamlessly juxtaposing online and offline activities. The Black Curtain Screening is yet another attempt by the social network to gel and interact with their userbase. The most exclusive experience in movies is here! The Black Curtain Screenings provide MySpace members FREE access to the latest movies in popular theatres in various cities even before they are released.
What else do you need in the name of pop-culture?
