“A child is a curly dimpled lunatic” says Ralph Waldo Emerson, and taming these lunatics can be a big issue. In fact some finicky parents cannot live without advice and tips from mags, blogs or even their neighbours. But now Indian parents can tackle many parenting issues with the help of the Internet. All thanks to Shobha Durairajan and Sathya Narayanaswamy’s efforts to create an online community for parents called Parentree.in.

Part of the Chennai-based Parentree Communications the online community had its soft launch in August this year and has managed to gain some momentum. The online community lets parents interact and share (or absorb) information on varied aspects related to children. From reviews of schools to children’s books, Parentree.in has it all. In fact you could even share your tips and reviews on varied subjects that affect children. Other than blogs, write-ups, discussions etc Parentree.in offers its users an interactive space to indulge in. The online community falls short on the design front (too many colors) but is easy to navigate.

Though this is the first of its kind in India, parenting communities are common amongst US audiences. Social networking services in India are on the innovative curve and ParentTree.in is the perfect example. But it is a long way for ParentTree.in till it gains a stronghold.
