India is a leader in information technology and the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) plans on harnessing the expertise to ease out clinical trails in the country.
The government has plans to introduce e-governance by 2013 which will help companies to file online applications. These applications would be directly forwarded to the DCGI office where they would be validated. Data confidentiality would be the prime concern but the DCGI has planned the entire process. The data received from companies would be split by the system amongst various departments and thus no one individual would have access to the entire data.
The process of setting up the system would take approximately 4 years.
