According to industry sources Sony Ericsson is considering a merger with Indian handset maker Spice Mobile. The BK Modi Group owns 64% of Spice Mobile demanded for Rs. 80-100 per share. This price range would in turn value the company at up to $174 million. Though Spice Mobile sources have agreed that talks are on about the deal but noting has been finalised.
Sony Ericsson is now the fifth largest handset manufacturer in the world. Though the recent market conditions have not be favourable for Sony Ericsson yet it has managed to maintain its stand as one of the premier handset manufacturers. After the news of the probable merger Spice Mobile shares rose by 10% to Rs. 24.95.
