VNL is here to promote and promulgate ‘Micro-telecom’. Well that is what VNL claims to be offering the world. The Swedish-Indian start-up is all set to revolutionise telecom for the rural population in varied developing countries.
They have designed and developed a solar powered mobile network that:
- Comes with a low price tag (around $3,500)
- Consumes less electricity (as much as a light bulb)
- Is easy to install (no engineers needed)
Tower-top radio transmitters are powering mobile networks in rural areas. The diesel-powered generators and batteries cost a lot, need technical assistance and consume a lot of fuel. Compared to conventional base stations VNL offers a solar-powered station which has all the features I mentioned above. The start-up was in news for its recent tie-up with Indian mobile-infrastructure company Quippo Infrastructure Equipment Ltd.
This move should trigger off a lot of opportunities for mobile networks like Vodafone who have trying to marginalise and connect Indian rural areas through the telecom boom. The VNL invention will even benefit millions of Indians in rural areas and empower them with new age connectivity.
