“No one knows what women want!” Well I guess this big question even put the Walmart team into a flurry. Even they now believe that fashion comes with a big price tag. The fashionable line of women’s wear that Wal-Mart Stores online division has been selling since last August is slated to be put out of production. Walmart.com has no current plans of continuing their z.b.d. line as it was only being sold as a test after failed attempts to sell fashionable clothing in their physical stores.

Wal-Mart says that its online shoppers usually have a larger shopping budget than customers who prefer to shop at their retail outlets, which is why some of the items available online are different from what is available at their retail outlets.

In the 2006 attempt to compete with Target Corp and sell more fashionable clothing failed miserably, which is why Wal-Mart is now going with more basic, cost-effective apparel.

Because of this failure, Wal-Mart has been given no option but to cut down prices drastically on the hordes of left-over stock, which has in turn hurt sales and margins. Wal-Mart’s new range of basic apparel will even include under-garments and socks.

With the US economy facing a slump, shoppers are looking away from more expensive clothing and turning to more basic attire, which is the main reason why z.b.d. items such as the matching wide-leg tweed trousers for $22.88 did not fare very well for them.

Wal-Mart is the world’s largest public corporation by revenue. It is the largest private employer and the fourth largest commercial employer in the world As of June 05, 2008, net sales for the 17-week period ending May 30, 2008 was a whopping $126.3 billion.
