The long-living arch rivalry between Facebook and Google jus got intense.
For over a decade now, the internets biggest search company, Google has dominated the online world with exceptional computing algorithms. About a week ago, Google turned it up a notch by launching its first-ever social networking initiative called Google Buzz which was known to be on the lines of Facebook’s style. This application allows over 150 million Gmail users to exchange information and updates as well as tapping knowledge within the network.
Facebook’s counter-attack was eminent for all to see when recent reports stated that the social networking giant ranked 4th as a source generating traffic towards news and other media sites behind Google, Yahoo and MSN. But that’s not where it ends. The traffic proportion sourced by Facebook to media sites increased from 1.2%-3.52% over the last year, whereas Google was at a static 1.4%.
An eagle-eye view on this depicts a state of interchanged role-play between these two internet giants.
The desktop-internet era is passé, whereas the mobile-internet era stands firm on the brink of an escalation. In the U.S. a mammoth 16 million users surf the internet via mobiles and 5 million who do so exclusively to be on Facebook. One cannot fathom the league of ramifications if Facebook zeroed in on web search engines. It would undoubtedly be a living hell for Google.
Google although stands its ground sturdily in the web world. But there is more to it that meets the eye.
Let’s just say that the one that draws first blood in this ultimate battle for the internet throne may not essentially as yet, won the war!
