With 26% acquisition in Tata Teleservices, Japanese Mobile giant NTT DoCoMo has made its way into the lucrative Indian telecom market. As per media reports the two entities are planning to work together in number of areas including designing of new handsets and VAS.

DoCoMo is known for its cutting edge technology and value added applications like ‘i-mode’ and garners a significant ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) from data services. Indian telecom operators are banking on VAS services too to drive ARPU’s, hence it will be interesting to see how the DoCoMo partnership is leveraged by Tata Tele, to strengthen its VAS portfolio.

With a global leader like DoCoMo on their side, Tata Tele may just emerge as a strong contender in the VAS space.
